HackYourFuture, a coding school for refugees, helps them to become web-developers through a 7-month program. But even in a very in-demand job market, stereotypes and stigmas are still blinding many recruiters. To open recruiters' eyes, we showed them that refugees are behind some of the websites they use every day.
Behind The Source is a joint initiative that lets you go literally behind the source of popular websites, in order to reveal the exceptional stories of the HackYourFuture alumni who coded them.
Partners told the stories of their employes on their profiles.
All you had to do is go on these websites — such as Ebay or Accenture — click ‘View Source’ in your browser to display the portraits hidden in the code, and read the exceptional journeys of Alusine, Elif, Joudi, Mohamad, Sarea, Rabi and Sima... who went from refugees to talented developers.
Their portraits were deconstructed into ASCII code characters, allowing us to ensure the anonymity required by their political refugee status, and the safety of their families left behind.
Pushing the world to go behind the source isn’t just a geeky move, it’s an invitation to literally reveal the potential that hides behind the refugee label.
We targeted working areas and coworking spaces with posters and OOH, nudging HR, CTOs and recruiters to take action.
